What you’ll practice: Ask about a concern without assigning a motive or promising an exception.

YOUR PRACTICE STUDIO1 / 3

01 / GET THE IDEA

Small ideas. Useful moves.

01

This short fictional exercise introduces one communication skill. The full supervisor workshop is a paid product. It is not agency policy or an operational instruction.

02

In a training scenario, an employee says, “That assignment feels unfair.” You do not yet know which part concerns them.

03

A useful first question is: “Which part of the assignment feels unfair to you?” Listen to the answer before proposing a solution. Understanding a concern does not authorize changing a policy or making a scheduling promise.

04

A supervisor would still need the applicable policy and decision authority before making a real commitment. Use only fictional details in this exercise.
